About five years ago, Kenworth embarked on a research and development journey to renew its 30-year medium-duty product line. After years of testing and knowledge from more than 500 fleet customers and drivers, the result is a completely new line of medium-duty (MD) trucks built from the ground up.
During the virtual demonstration on April 5, Kenworth officially unveiled its new line of MD conventional trucks, ranging from Class 5 to lightweight Class 8. New models include the Kenworth T180 (Class 5), Kenworth T280 (Class 6), Kenworth T380 (Class 7), and Kenworth T480 (light Class 8) cargo and refrigerated van, beverage, tow and recovery, utility and government, fuel and It is designed to serve a variety of applications including propane, landscaping, fire, water tank and drain and mixer. . Additionally, for fleets that need front engine power take-off (FEPTO), full parent rails and fixed grille, Kenworth has added both the T380V and T480V with a professional hood.
Production of the new line is expected to increase at the beginning of the third quarter of 2021. Kenworth will begin phasing out the old MD line, though that date is unclear. However, Kenworth representatives believe that a more natural replacement process will occur after the new vehicles eventually become available.
